American Gothic: Tanya Sabirzhanova, Angela Qian, and Catherine Elliot
The original is the 1930 piece by Grant Wood featuring a stern-looking farmer couple holding a pitchfork.
We chose this piece because we thought we could play off the austere vibes of the couple. We thought the expressions of the couple were funny and thought that the setting could be an exciting challenge. We’re planning on modernizing the painting by putting a Sequel twist on it and replacing the woman’s brooch with an Artfest button.
