‘Softball’ by Catherine Elliott

‘Softball’ by Catherine Elliott

Calloused fingertips,
Raised laces worn down smooth.
Spirits battered from strikeouts,
Body frayed from heat.

Dirt filled cleats,
Pebbles prod through heels.
Low-scored games,
Face paint smeared.

Foot slides to the plate,
Safe.
Elated, we collide.
Eruption of cheer.

Laces tied,
Bonds fastened.
