Liberty Leading the People
The piece we decided to recreate is Liberty Leading the People by French artist Eugene Delacroix in 1830. The piece depicts a woman with the French flag in her hand leading a group of men over a pile of corpses. This piece has many elements and individuals that can be represented. The piece is very dynamic and has plenty of emotion, which makes the piece interesting. The overall theme of the piece will depict survival from a civil war or homeland war. Modernization will be achieved with contemporary clothing and environment. The French flag with be replaced with a white flag to symbolize surrender. The backgrounds and individuals will be put in a dark, desolate area like that of the wilderness or a sturdy building like a bomb shelter or brick building. The corpses the woman walks over will be replaced with rubble—bricks, rocks, wood—and supplies such as backpacks.
