My prizes
And possessions
Cannot compare
To this ache
Of wasted time.
To think
Of what
My mind
Could have been learning
When I realized
The way the golden speckles
In your russet eyes
Somehow turn emerald green
Beneath a bright nimble light
Is undeniably displeasing.
When my chest would feel agony
From irrelevant others in the past,
To think my first initial thought
Would be, “It’s okay, because he is better”.
My treasure on top of the gold
Proved to me that people
Can change like autumn to snow,
And even though I am in pain
I know I will be okay
Because there is somebody out there
Who is better.
